US Wins Arbitration Against Mexico Over GMO Corn Restrictions

Reported about 13 hours ago

The US has successfully resolved its dispute with Mexico regarding imports of genetically engineered corn, with an arbitration panel under the USMCA trade agreement ruling that Mexico's import restrictions were scientifically unfounded and violated the trade pact. Despite Mexico's previous ban on GMO corn for human consumption and ongoing droughts prompting record imports of US corn for animal feed, the ruling reinforces US concerns about Mexico's biotechnology policies. While Mexico disagrees with the ruling, it will accept the decision while pursuing domestic legislation to ban the planting of GMO corn.
