Recent economic data indicates a stable job market in the US, with low layoffs and quits, despite a slowdown in hiring. In December, 122,000 private payrolls were added, down from November’s 146,000. Jobless claims fell to 201,000, below expectations. Although job openings have increased, the hiring rate and quits rate have both dipped lower than pre-pandemic levels. ADP's chief economist emphasizes that the cooling labor market is evident among white-collar workers, but warns that economic conditions can change rapidly.
