Toronto has decided to exclude Tesla vehicles from its electric vehicle incentives for taxis and ride-sharing services due to ongoing trade tensions with the United States. Mayor Olivia Chow stated that this change, effective March 1, aims to prompt a response to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s ties with U.S. President Trump, who has imposed tariffs affecting Canada. The incentives for other electric vehicles will remain until the end of 2029, but Tesla buyers can no longer expect taxpayer-funded subsidies.
