In March, U.S. importers faced a staggering $310 million in fees for undervalued or improperly declared goods, marking a remarkable 10,590% increase compared to February's $2.9 million. This surge follows the implementation of stricter trade policies and a significant rise in audits by Customs and Border Protection, which conducted 71 audits that highlighted these discrepancies. Even as $49 million was collected from this amount, the ongoing enforcement signals a tightening in trade regulations amid rising scrutiny of imports, particularly from China.
