In the latest weekly report, U.S. rail freight traffic saw a 0.8% decline compared to the previous year, primarily driven by a slowdown in intermodal shipments, despite a 0.6% increase in commodity shipments. Noteworthy gains were posted in grain and motor vehicles, but a significant drop in petroleum products impacted overall performance. Cumulative data for 2025 still shows a 2.6% year-over-year increase in carload volume.
