Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in South Korea increased by 48% in the first eight months of 2025, reaching 142,456 units, driven by new models, government incentives, and price competition. In August alone, sales were 23,740 units, and local manufacturers accounted for 61% of these sales. Despite strong growth, the market still lags behind the government's 2030 greenhouse gas reduction targets, prompting calls for incentives to boost domestic production.
