General Motors is laying off approximately 1,700 employees at its plants in Michigan and Ohio due to a decline in electric vehicle demand. The layoffs include around 1,200 jobs at an electric vehicle plant in Detroit and 550 positions at the Ultium Cells battery facility in Ohio, alongside temporary layoffs for additional workers. The company is adjusting its EV production strategy amidst changing market conditions and the recent expiration of federal tax credits for electric vehicles.
