China's Baidu is set to launch its upgraded AI model, Ernie 4.5, in mid-March, featuring enhanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities. The move comes amid growing competition from startups like DeepSeek, which offer comparable performance at lower costs. Baidu plans to gradually release the Ernie series and will make it open source starting June 30. CEO Robin Li stated that this new model will be the company's best yet, marking a shift to open-source development in response to industry pressures.
