On July 7, 2024, Cheng Wen-ts'an, the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, was suspected of corruption during his tenure as Taoyuan mayor, allegedly accepting bribes in a specific industrial zone expansion project. He announced his resignation as chairman in the morning. KMT legislator Hsieh Lung-chieh mentioned that President Lai Ching-te is preparing to hold more individuals accountable, implying Cheng's situation is self-inflicted due to not aligning with Lai. Hsieh praised Lai for anti-corruption efforts but warned against leniency in prosecutions.
