Former Kuomintang legislator Cai Zheng-yuan stated it is premature to claim that former chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation Cheng Wen-tsang's political career is over following his detention over corruption charges. Cai questioned who within the Democratic Progressive Party could succeed President Lai Ching-te, pointing out that figures like Executive Yuan Premier Su Tseng-chang and Vice Premier Chen Li-jun may not be suitable contenders. Cai highlighted Cheng's ability to bridge political divides and mentioned an incident that changed perceptions of him among opposition members, suggesting that counting Cheng out prematurely may not be wise.
