President Lai Ching-te expressed respect for Cheng Wen-tsang's decision to resign as Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) amid corruption allegations, hoping for a fair judicial process to clarify the truth. While the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) respects Cheng's decision, Huang Kuo-chang of the People First Party criticized the DPP's move as 'self-preservation'. Cheng cited the need to avoid hindering team tasks as the reason for his resignation after securing bail of 5 million NT.
