On July 7, 2024, Cheng Wen-tsang, the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, resigned from his position after being accused of corruption during his tenure as the mayor of Taoyuan City. He was granted bail of 5 million NT dollars by the Taoyuan District Court on the 6th, with restrictions on residence, travel, and overseas activities. The resignation was seen by Huang Kuo-chang, the convener of the People First Party legislative caucus, as an expected move by the Democratic Progressive Party to salvage its reputation. Huang criticized the DPP government for tolerating Cheng's misdeeds for so long and emphasized the importance of integrity in public office.
