EU antitrust regulators have abandoned a controversial merger tool aimed at preventing killer acquisitions, following a court decision that deemed the power an overreach. The Luxembourg-based Court of Justice sided with Illumina against the European Commission's use of Article 22 to assess its $7.1 billion Grail bid. The EU stated it may explore other avenues to monitor such acquisitions in the future.
