Former Taoyuan City Mayor and current chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsang, was arrested by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office in the early hours of the 6th on suspicion of corruption, under the Anti-Corruption Act. He was released on NT$5 million bail the same afternoon, with restrictions on residence and travel. The prosecution immediately appealed upon learning this, and the Taoyuan Court responded on the 7th that it will expedite the process to send the case to the High Court on the 8th. The case involves allegations of bribery in a land development project during Cheng's term as mayor.
