On the evening of June 23, 2024, at 10:27 pm, a Richter scale 5.4 earthquake struck near Hualien County. The earthquake caused a fast-food restaurant's door to malfunction and not close properly due to the shaking, scaring people in the vicinity. The tremor also led to significant shaking in homes and on the Hualien Bridge, prompting vehicles to emergency brake and move back for safety. This earthquake, a residual tremor from a previous one, had a depth of 17 kilometers and reached intensity level 4 in Hualien and Nantou, and level 3 in Yilan, Taitung, and Taichung, with a total of 1557 aftershocks recorded so far.
