Nippon Steel has announced it will not import steel from its international mills to facilitate its $14.9 billion acquisition of U.S. Steel, as stated by Executive Vice President Takahiro Mori. This decision comes as the company aims to finalize the deal by the end of the year, before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, despite challenges from both the United Steelworkers union and the Biden administration. Mori has emphasized commitments to the union regarding job security and investments in U.S. Steel, and will visit U.S. steelworkers to address concerns.
