Taiwanese Legislator Predicts Constitutional Interpretation Battle with Government: Reformation Laws Likely Constitutional

Reported 11 months ago

On June 23, 2024, the parliamentary reform bill proposed by Blue and White legislators passed through three readings in the Legislative Yuan, but subsequent override bills presented by the Executive Yuan were rejected by Blue and White cooperation in the legislature. The Presidential Office and Executive Yuan are now preparing for constitutional interpretation. KMT legislator Wu Tsung-hsien believes that the reform laws do not violate the constitution, comply with Taiwan's constitutional system, and are in line with past interpretations by the Grand Justices. He anticipates a battle over the impending constitutional interpretation, vowing that the KMT will not sit idly by and will counter the government's attempts to conceal any malicious intentions. Wu Tsung-hsien hopes for transparency in the parliament so that fairness and justice are not engulfed by the state machinery.
