The U.S. relies on imports for a significant portion of its copper, with over two-thirds of its refined copper mined in Arizona. In light of this, President Trump has initiated an investigation into potential tariffs on copper imports to bolster domestic production, particularly for sectors reliant on the metal, such as electric vehicles and military hardware. Last year, Chile, Canada, and Peru provided over 90% of the U.S.'s refined copper imports, amidst growing concerns over China's dominance in global copper refining and mining.
