Zheng Wen-Can, the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), resigned from his position due to suspected corruption allegations and was ordered by the Taoyuan District Court to post bail of NT$5 million. This is not the first time he has lost an official position at SEF; back in 2007, he was sent to SEF as deputy secretary-general as a result of his involvement in the 'Fuji Banquet' scandal, only to resign after a short 5 months. Zheng, who had previously served as the mayor of Taoyuan City, was promoted to Deputy Premier by former President Tsai Ing-wen after stepping down as mayor. However, his defeat in all 6 precincts of Taoyuan in the 2024 legislative election and becoming a target of attacks while in opposition led to his recent resignation from the SEF chairman position due to alleged corruption.
