On July 16, 2024, Japan's Ministry of Defense revealed that China's Shandong aircraft carrier conducted a staggering 380 aircraft and helicopter take-offs and landings between July 9 and 15. The Shandong was monitored south of Miyako Island alongside several destroyers and support vessels, with their fleet varying in number over the week. Japan's Self-Defense Forces dispatched ships and aircraft to keep a close watch during these military activities.
