Reported 3 months ago

A series of sinkholes appeared in Zhubei, Hsinchu, with accusations of corruption involving county chief Yang Wenke and former director of public works department Jiang Liangyuan. The investigation found that the construction company Fengyi Building Construction had allegedly deviated from the original design to cut costs, posing safety risks to the public, while Yang Wenke denied the allegations, questioning the prosecution's reasoning as one-sided. The prosecutor's office lodged charges against 12 individuals for corruption and violating construction regulations, claiming that the officials turned a blind eye to safety issues in favor of the developer. Yang Wenke protested his innocence, while the prosecutor condemned the serious collusion between government officials and businesses, seeking severe punishment and confiscation of over 250 million yuan of illegal gains.
