On July 17, 2024, at 9:37 pm, the windshield of a tour bus shattered (image from TVBS). This morning at 7:47 am, a five-car pile-up occurred on the southbound National Freeway No. 5 at kilometer 33.4 in the direction of Yilan from Toucheng! The accident involved 3 small cars, 1 small truck, and 1 tour bus, resulting in 2 minor injuries with no life-threatening situations. The tour bus had its left front windshield and headlights shattered with its body shell falling off. All vehicles have been removed, causing a 2-kilometer congestion. During the rush hour traffic, the congestion lasted around half an hour before being cleared, while the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
