A terrifying fire broke out at Jiu Ding Department Store in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, China, leaving 16 dead as of early July 18. A man trapped in the fire sent a farewell message from his phone, asking friends to take care of his family if he didn't make it out. The blaze, which started for unknown reasons, engulfed the entire building. Rescue operations ended with no more trapped individuals by early morning. 16 fatalities were reported, with the injured receiving medical treatment. The man's emotional last words were shared online, prompting sympathy and hope for his safe rescue.
