Taiwan Railway Station Staff Encounters Passenger Smoking on Platform, Passenger Reacts Violently

Reported 3 months ago

A man wearing a red shirt in Taichung lost his temper and verbally abused station staff after being prohibited from smoking on the platform. Despite staff's persuasion, the man refused to comply, provoking and even threatening physical violence, almost causing staff to fall off the platform. Railway police intervened, and although the man accepted advice from the police, he was fined between 2,000 to 10,000 NTD for violating the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. The incident occurred at Taichung Station, where smoking is prohibited in all areas including platforms and train carriages, as enforced through persuasion by station staff and potential contract termination for severe cases to maintain public safety.
