Reported 5 months ago

Taoyuan City Councilor Zhang Zhaoliang is suspected of bribery and influencing illegal construction, leading to a raid by prosecutors on July 17th. This comes in the midst of former Hail foundation chairman Cheng Wen-tsan being detained for alleged bribery during his tenure as Taoyuan mayor, creating a series of corruption-related incidents involving individuals associated with him. The investigation is focusing on potential benefits gained unlawfully and the use of falsified documents in business transactions. Zhang is believed to have lobbied for a building under illegal construction to avoid legal consequences, aiming to lease it to a chain convenience store after completion. The case has shocked the local community, especially since Zhang was seen attending a public event in the morning before being brought in for questioning in the afternoon.
