According to an interview in Bloomberg Businessweek, former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump expressed his concerns about Taiwan, suggesting it may have to pay for U.S. protection if he is elected. This emotional response towards Taiwan by Trump is believed to be related to Foxconn's founder Terry Gou. Yabe Akio, former chief of the Taiwan branch of Japan's Nikkei Shimbun, mentioned that Taiwan should clarify to the Trump administration that the actions of individual entrepreneurs do not represent Taiwan as a whole, as Taiwan has been crucial in advancing semiconductor technology and capacity for the benefit of the free world and democracy.
