Before being shot, US Republican presidential candidate Trump, in an interview on June 25, alleged Taiwan taking away US chip business and stated Taiwan should pay protection fee if he wins this year's presidential election; his remarks raised concerns about Washington's support for Taiwan's democracy. Trump also implied Taiwan's dominance in US chip business without providing evidence, causing disturbance in the market with TSMC stock prices dropping. If re-elected, Trump hinted at tougher stance on China and support for TikTok.
