Wind power operations off Nantucket Island suspended due to turbine blade debris

Reported 3 months ago

Operations of the Vineyard Wind offshore wind project near Nantucket Island have been halted after turbine blade parts were found on the southern-facing beaches. The federal government ordered the suspension, pending an investigation into the 'blade failure' and its potential impact on other blades. The company is working on debris recovery efforts, with assurance that the beaches will be cleaned up. ISO New England states the incident will not affect the power system's reliability. Vineyard Wind is collaborating with GE to analyze the root cause of the turbine damage.
