On July 17, 2024, the brother-in-law and sister-in-law of Kuomintang lawmaker Xu Qiaoxin's husband, Liu Xiangjie and Du Bingcheng, were indicted by the Taipei District Court for alleged involvement in a cryptocurrency fraud scheme that laundered money, facing charges of aggravated fraud, money laundering, and violations of the Organized Crime Prevention Act. The court ruled late at night to continue detaining the two. During the proceedings, when asked if he needed to notify any family members or if there were any in need of care, Du Bingcheng responded that he had 3 cats and no other family members. Liu Xiangjie, who was present in court with a restraining order due to domestic violence, remained calm and stated that no family members needed to be notified after the ruling was announced.
