Due to a warm air mass and a high-pressure system over the Pacific Ocean, Taiwan is experiencing extremely high temperatures from today until Saturday with Taipei reaching 27-36 degrees Celsius and heat index up to 42 degrees. Various regions are expected to see temperatures around 37 degrees, with thunderstorms in the afternoons. Meteorologist Wu Der-rong advises precautions against sunburn, heatstroke, and warns of daily thunderstorms, potential local flooding, landslides, and debris flows. Several counties are under orange heat warning with New Taipei and Pingtung possibly hitting 38 degrees, while Taipei City, Taoyuan, Miaoli, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Hualien, and Taitung under a continuous 36-degree heat warning. The week will remain unstable with afternoon thunderstorms and heatwaves, intensifying on Tuesday and Wednesday.
