Central Weather Bureau indicated that Yunlin County is under a red alert with a high probability of reaching an extreme temperature of 38 degrees today (25th), while Pingtung County is on orange alert. Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Hualien County are also on orange alert for a high temperature of 36 degrees. Meteorologist Lin De-en pointed out five possible reasons for the early occurrence of such high temperatures, including the Pacific high-pressure axis extending westward or covering the region, insufficient nocturnal radiative cooling, the urban heat island effect, monsoons and wind directions, as well as overly stable air currents. Lin warned that with the exacerbation of global warming, the situation will deteriorate further and emphasized the need for effective strategies to address the issue.
