Southwest Airlines has appointed Doug Brooks as its independent board chair effective August 1, following Rakesh Gangwal's decision to step down for other commitments. Brooks, a director since 2010 and former CEO of Brinker International, takes over amid ongoing operational challenges for the airline, including the end of its open seating policy and new fare structures. A new Fleet Oversight Committee will also be formed with Gangwal as its chair.
