Two English teachers, Kristina Knighten and Paul Cordier, opted to purchase a fixer-upper lake house in Italy's Lake Iseo for $25,000 after abandoning their plans to move back to the US. Despite initial intentions to save for a home in Chicago, the couple fell in love with the Italian town during a road trip in 2018, leading them to pursue a unique and unconventional life in Italy, where they now run a test-prep business and enjoy the benefits of living in a more affordable and picturesque environment than in the US.
