In a report from CTnews 20-year-old male who had been feverish for a month and self-medicated with fever reducers until experiencing 'wheezing' symptoms before seeking emergency care. Unusual X-ray results showing ground-glass opacities resembling 'pneumocystis pneumonia' led to an HIV test, with the next day confirming 'HIV-positive' results. The man's diffuse 'ground-glass opacities' on the X-ray prompted initial suspicions of pneumocystis pneumonia by chest physician Su Yifeng, as the patient had been persistently feverish and immune-compromised. With HIV being a legally notifiable infectious disease, treatment for his pneumonia included HIV antiviral medication, in accordance with regulations.
