Archaeologists recently discovered the oldest liquid grape wine to date in a Roman tomb in southern Spain. Found during renovations in a residential area in Carmona, the jar contained approximately 4.5 liters of pale red liquid confirmed to be wine through chemical analysis. The well-preserved contents, including cremated bones and charred ivory, were sealed in a jar that prevented the liquid from evaporating. This discovery may overturn records of the oldest preserved liquid wine known, providing valuable cultural and scientific insights into Roman burial rituals.
