Taipei City Vice Mayor Li Sichuan emerges as a popular candidate for the 2026 New Taipei City mayoral election, leading with support close to 40%. As the end of Mayor Hou You-yi's term approaches, attention turns to who will succeed him in the Kuomintang. According to recent polls by the Broadcasting Corporation and the Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation, among potential KMT candidates, Li Sichuan garners the highest support at 37.26%, while in the DPP camp, Su Tseng-chang leads with 26.35%. The polls also indicate various scenarios of matchups between candidates, with Cheng Wen-Tsan from the Green Camp being the only one who could win against Li Sichuan in a head-to-head race.
