A fire broke out in an apartment building on Yanshou Road in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, around 3 a.m. today, suspected to have been triggered by an explosion of lithium batteries being charged after the fire was extinguished. The fire resulted in the tragic deaths of a mother and 2 sons, while the father and daughter survived. The blaze is believed to have originated from a lithium battery explosion during charging in the living room. The Fire Department mentioned that the main causes of lithium battery fires in nearly 2 years were product defects, improper use, and heavy impact. They advise the public to follow 6 precautions when using lithium battery products to prevent similar incidents, emphasizing the importance of product safety and compliance with safety requirements.
