On July 6, 2024, the Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation and former Mayor of Taoyuan, Cheng Wen-tsang, was arrested on suspicion of corruption after being questioned by the Taoyuan prosecutor's office. During his tenure as mayor, Cheng collaborated with a Thai YouTuber, Alizabeth, on filming a video and when asked about corruption, he denied it but mentioned the need to be mentally prepared to be a corrupt official in Taiwan. This statement has sparked irony as he now faces bribery allegations. Cheng Wen-tsang has been granted bail of 5 million NTD with restrictions on residency and travel. He denies any wrongdoing and vows to cooperate with the judicial investigation to clear his name.
