70-Year-Old Passes Exam to Become Class A Seaman After Resigning from Class B Crew Member Position

In the 113th navigation personnel examination ceremony held by the Ports and Harbors Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation on June 28, 2024, a 70-year-old examinee resigned from a Class B crew member position, challenged the exam for the 12th time, successfully obtained the Class A seaman qualification, becoming the oldest successful examinee. A total of 729 people registered for the exam, with 617 attending, and a pass rate of 17.34%. The examinee had previously worked on inter-island routes as a crew member, upgraded from Class B to Class A seaman, and is eligible for on-board engine room work after completing an internship. Starting from this exam, all qualified examinees will receive electronic certificates instead of paper ones.
