An 82-year-old man named Chen from Meinong, Kaohsiung, rode a 49cc mini motorcycle all the way from his home over 200 kilometers to Taitung on July 5, in an attempt to collect a debt of 50,000 NTD from a friend he lent the money to decades ago. Unable to find his friend or a place to stay, Chen sought help from the police. Concerned for his safety, the police arranged accommodation for him for the night. Chen's journey was motivated by his recollection of a debt from his time working in the timber business in Taitung years ago, and this was not his first attempt to collect the debt unsuccessfully.
