During the Academia Sinica Academician Conference today (7/2), the feasibility of future nuclear energy use was a key concern. Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan, Chen Li-chun, emphasized the need for both pro-nuclear and anti-nuclear stakeholders to address the nuclear waste issue before discussing nuclear energy use. Chen Li-chun spoke at the 35th Academia Sinica Academician Conference presenting a governance vision for the national Hope Project and highlighted the importance of innovation, expanded social investment, and the pursuit of democracy and peace. Discussions also touched on the government's push towards a second energy transition with a focus on diverse green energy sources. The Academia Sinica academic Liu Hong-wen and a US professor raised questions on the potential of future nuclear energy use, with Chen Li-chun expressing optimism about advancements in nuclear energy safety and waste management in the future.
