Accident at Taipei Main Station Causes Delays for Southbound Trains Due to Homecoming Crowd

On June 21, 2024, a Taroko Express train traveling through Hualien's Qingshui Tunnel was hit by falling rocks, resulting in disruptions along the Heren to Chongde section and single-track operations. The accident led to delays of nearly 30 minutes for passengers traveling southbound from Taipei Main Station, impacting those returning from Hualien who narrowly missed boarding the affected train. Despite the incident, all 516 passengers were safe, with affected passengers rerouted at Xincheng Station while rescue workers provided support at the platform. The accident has caused delays for southbound trains, including Taroko Express and Tzu-chiang Express services, with repairs expected to take time before normal operations resume.
