On June 17, 2024, Central News reported that powerful afternoon thunderstorms are expected today (18), affecting areas such as Greater Taipei, Yilan, and northern mountainous regions. Meteorologist Wu Derong mentioned a high chance of a typhoon forming in the South China Sea next week, though it is not likely to directly impact Taiwan. The weather forecast includes scattered showers in the western half this morning and afternoon thunderstorms in the north, with heavy rain in specific areas. Showers will continue tomorrow with increased intensity. By Thursday (20), changes are expected due to the strengthening Pacific high pressure, leading to reduced rain in some areas. From Friday (21) to next Monday (23), most regions will see partly cloudy to clear skies with fewer afternoon showers. Wu also indicated a tropical disturbance brewing in the South China Sea, potentially developing into a typhoon next week, although it is forecasted to head towards Guangdong, Hainan, and not affect Taiwan.
