Reported 7 months ago

Retired Air Force Colonel Liu Shengshu was found to have developed a spy organization in Taiwan for 8 years, receiving over 16.7 million RMB from the mainland and absorbing military classified information from retired naval and air force officers. The Supreme Court sentenced Liu to 20 years in prison for violating the National Security Act, with the highest penalty for recent spy cases. Other defendants received sentences ranging from 2 years to 20 years, with some cases requiring further clarification and appeals being rejected. Liu, who retired in 2013, was recruited as a spy by mainland intelligence while doing business in China, operating a front company in Taiwan to gather sensitive information. Investigations led to his arrest along with other military officers, facing charges under multiple security laws.
