Air freight rates on US routes have seen a significant increase with rates breaking the 300 NTD mark on both the East and West Coasts, and urgent cargo rates soaring to 450-500 NTD per kilogram. This surge is a result of the peak season arriving earlier than expected, with airlines including China Airlines, EVA Air, and StarLux Airlines increasing their air freight prices in response to high demand from industries such as AI, semiconductor equipment, and e-commerce as well as the upcoming summer vacation season. The increase in demand is attributed to factors such as the crowded cargo space in passenger cabins, the growth of e-commerce, and concerns over potential high anti-dumping import tariffs later in the year.
