Airbus has equipped an electric truck with an airliner cockpit to research safer taxiing.

Reported 6 months ago

Airbus is showcasing an electric truck fitted with basic A350 airliner controls at the VivaTech event in Europe to demonstrate automated taxiing for safer airports amid concerns of ground collisions. The truck, equipped with sensors and onboard computers, can be controlled manually or by the aircraft systems, navigating through warning lines and obstacles. Airbus hopes this research will help prevent costly and growing incidents of jet collisions on the ground. The project, part of the "Optimate" initiative, is a collaboration with Israeli electric vehicle maker Ree Automotive and may lead to changes in plane design if successful, although Airbus currently has no plans to introduce autonomy in jetliners.
