Alaska's capital city and major cruise lines have reached an agreement to cap the daily cruise ship passengers in Juneau by 2026, with planned limits of 16,000 passengers on weekdays and 12,000 on Saturdays. However, a critic of the cruise industry feels the limits are insufficient, as tension rises between businesses and residents over the impacts of increased tourism. The agreement aims to maintain around 1.6 million cruise passengers annually, allowing time for infrastructure improvements and yearly reviews.
