Alberta Set to Challenge Trudeau's Emission Cap on Oil and Gas

Reported about 6 hours ago

Alberta's government plans to invoke legislation to oppose Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's federally proposed cap on oil and gas emissions. The province argues that the cap, which aims for a 35% reduction from 2019 levels, would harm its energy production and jurisdiction. Premier Danielle Smith stated Alberta will not enforce or support any federal rules it deems unconstitutional. If the cap becomes law, Alberta intends to launch a constitutional challenge and impose restrictions on federal access to oil and gas facilities.
