Cheng Wen-tsang, Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, is suspected of corruption and detained by the Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office with a bail set at 5 million NT. Yang Yong-ming, former Deputy Secretary-General of the National Security Council and current lecturer at NCCU, believes that President Lai Ching-te does not want moderate factions within the DPP on cross-strait issues. Yang notes that with Cheng's political influence and recent differing views from Lai, the moderate faction of the DPP is disappearing as Lai is eliminating potential political threats, such as those like Cheng Wen-tsang, within the party.
