Allegations made by DPP legislator Lin Shufen that certain hospitals in southern Taiwan were offering priority hospital bed arrangements for a registration fee of NT$6,000 have been refuted by the health bureaus in Tainan and Kaohsiung. Concerns were raised about the public healthcare system shrinking as private pay-to-play systems grow. The Tainan City Health Bureau clarified that the highest registration fee in the city was NT$2,000 at a certain hospital, while Kaohsiung's Health Bureau confirmed that most city hospitals did not increase registration fees and cracked down on any illegal practices. Various hospitals in Kaohsiung were described as providing additional services for higher fees, such as specific appointment times and assistance with medication. The situation has sparked public outrage and heightened fears of healthcare inequality.
